Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website to remember your preferences and improve your experience. Mobile apps do not use browser cookies, but they use functionally similar mechanisms described in Section 3 below.
2. Cookies Used on This Website
Our website uses only the following minimal set of cookies:
- Theme preference – A session value stored in
localStoragethat remembers whether you have selected dark or light mode. This data never leaves your device.
We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking cookies, or any third-party analytics cookies on this website.
3. On-Device Storage in Our Mobile Apps
Our mobile applications (available on iOS and Android) do not use browser cookies. Instead, they may use the following on-device storage mechanisms:
- Local app storage / SQLite – Used to cache content such as term definitions and user preferences so the app works offline. This data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
- UserDefaults (iOS) / SharedPreferences (Android) – Lightweight key-value storage used to save settings such as font size, display theme, and recently viewed terms.
All on-device data is scoped to the application sandbox and is removed when you uninstall the app.
4. Analytics and Crash Reporting
Our apps may use third-party SDKs to collect anonymous usage statistics and crash reports so we can improve stability and user experience. These SDKs may use persistent device identifiers. The SDKs we currently use, or may use, include:
- Firebase Analytics / Crashlytics (Google LLC) – Collects anonymised usage events and crash logs. See Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
You may limit ad tracking and analytics by adjusting your device's privacy settings:
- iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking
- Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads → Delete advertising ID
5. App Store Data
When you download our apps from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, the respective platform operator may collect data about your download and device. This collection is governed by Apple's and Google's own privacy policies, not ours.
6. Your Choices
You can control data collection by:
- Clearing app data or cache through your device's application settings.
- Uninstalling the app, which removes all locally stored data.
- Adjusting tracking preferences in your device's privacy settings as described in Section 4.
